A Resident of New Delhi, India, Padmaja was born in Shillong of Eastern India to Parents Shri Nani Gopal Goswami and Srimati Sheela Goswami

Her Father Nani Gopal Goswami (Benu) was an ardent lover of Music with special interest in Hindustani Classical did persue music as a hobby during his service with Department of Telecommunication, Govt. of India. He introduced Padmaja into the world of Music at a tender age of six and put her under local tutors to learn Music

Padmaja belongs to a rare breed of vocal musician from India who is equally adept and critically acclaimed in different forms of vocal music including pure Hindustani Classical, Semi-classical (Pooravang forms like Thumri, Tappa, Chaitee, Jhoola, Hori,etc) and Bhajan (devotional songs). She also has equal flair for different forms of Bengali music like Rabindra Sangeet, Nazrul Geeti, Folk, Kirtan, and Aadhunik.

Padmaja’s deep knowledge of rendering different Raagas and her exceptional Tān Sargam, which is enriched through decades of training received in Guru-Shishya tradition and dedicated Riyaz has helped her to take forward the tradition of Indian Culture in the field of Hindustani Classical Music. Her performances have been widely acclaimed by her audiences, critics and experts alike. Her rendition of Thumris and Chaitees gives an earful of pleasure to her listeners, a genre, she excelled in with her unique personal style and softness and age-old technique bestowed on her by her Guru who is none other than the legendry Thumri Queen from the famous ‘Banaras Gharana’, Padmabibhushan Vidushi Girija Devi, who has loving sculpted the inner beauty in her ‘gayeki’ and her style of performance. Padmaja has mastered the intricacies of the different Raagas from ‘Rampur-Senia Gharana’ maestro of Indian Classical music Pandit Samaresh Chawdhury of Kolkata, who is a direct disciple of world renowned Sitar maestro, Bharat Ratna Pandit Ravi Shankar. Padmaja’s journery in in the music world, where she was introduced by her father Shri Nanai Gopal Goswami and was guided by Gurus like Pandit Dinanath Mishra of Banaras Gharana and Padmashree Vidushi Sumitra Guha of Kirana Gharana. She has also graduate in vocal music from the renowned college of music and fine arts, Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata with top honours where her music has been influenced by the faculty of the university who are the stalwarts of Indian Music. Padmaja is an “A” Grade artist of All India Radio and Doordarshan. She is an empanelled artist with ICCR (Indian Council of Cultural Relations, Govt. of India) in three disciplines – Hindustani Classical, Light Music (Thumri) and Bhajan

Padmaja has imparted various performances in Hindustani Classical, Thumri, Bhajan, Bengali Modern and Bengali Folk songs throughout India and Overseas. Her performances included solo concerts with ‘Dadar Matunga Cultural Centre, Mumbai’, ‘Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh’, ‘Sur Sandhan. Kolkata’, ‘Arpann Trust, Delhi’, ‘Sabana Granthalaya, Pune’, ‘Saptak-Ahmedabad’, ‘Maharana Kumbh Sangeet Parishad -Udiapur’, ‘Pancham Nishad -Indore’, ‘Sur-Darwaze-Par –Noida’, ‘Classic-Delhi’ ‘Subha-e-Banaras’, ‘Granthagar Saptah, Nasik’, Nabadarsha Co-operative Society, Kolkata, Suhadhur Hansadhwani Trust, Gandhi-Hindustani Sahitya Sabha,Society for Action Through Music, New Delhi amongst others. Padmaja has widely toured India and abroad with her Gurus, as a capacity of supporting artist, for prestigious live concerts and Television telecasts.

Padmaja is a faculty for Thumri Vocal Music with the renowned Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, New Delhi, She is a visiting faculty with Rabindra Bharati University, Kolkata. She imparts training in Chassical Music and Semi-classical music through Guru-Sishya Parampara and is an external examinee for Delhi University. Padmaja has adjudged many popular music competitions like Sangam Kala Group and other university and local national competitions.

Padmaja has been endowed with Sangeet Samman Award-2013 &2016 by Sangeet Sandhya for
outstanding performance, Sangeet Ratna Award by Society for Action Through Music (SAM) and Gandhi
Hindustani Sahitya Sabha, New Delhi. Noida and her performances has been critically acclaimed by music
critics and newspapers throughout India
